Partial Loving

Dear child,

Today’s message has been on my heart for some days now and it has to do loving everybody wholeheartedly. James 2: 1 says ” My brethren, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality”. In this verse, James warns the brethren to treat everybody with love and to not be partial with love. In the society we live in today, its easy to love a particular group of people due to their class, money, clique etc. But today James warns us to not be a part of that tradition, but rather to break free and show love to all. This is because “if you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself,’ you do well; but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.” (Vs. 8 – 10).

It’s easy to find love for friends and family due to the bonds you share with them amd the experiences you have had with them. But what about a complete stranger? Let me go a step further and ask what about your enemy? It’s easy to by pass the limbless man on the street when you don’t look at him and fill your head with enough reasons as to why you should not give him that 2 cedis in your pocket that could be his next meal. But the reason why James tells us to go a step further is because your life, your kind gestures and words and loving smile might be the only representation of Jesus somebody will every see and that might just cause them to draw nearer to Christ.

STORY TIME!!!!

I remember 3 years ago in church I saw a lady with a disabled hand and I kept crossing her path because I wanted to do something for her but all I had was prayer and I thought she would think I was crazy or something. But I finally got the nerve to pray for her when I felt that God would be disappointed in me if I didn’t. So I said hello and asked if I could pray for her to be healed and she said yes. 10 minutes later as I waited for my parents to finsh their after church meeting, this woman found me to tell that she could feel something in her hands and that it had actually shifted and then she started crying and just telling me how she was jobless because of her disability, how her husband was gone, that her child was near death and how everybody (even the church memebers) looked at her funny so she didn’t come to church anymore (this was the first time in months). And so to her that action was love; because her circumstances had probably made her feel so unloved and deserted and just with one act of kindness she felt like there was hope for her after all.

So my brothers and sisters love all. We have been blessed with gifts that are not meant to be used for just the people around us but also for the world. What’s the point of always singing in church for people to enter His presence and never singing for the woman who hasn’t felt love in years because she thinks God left her?

For 1st John 3: 16 -18 says, ” By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth”

So let us not discriminate due to class, money or circumstances but rather let us give generously. Whether it is a smile, prayer, money or food, we must give and be kind.  For Philippians 4:3 says ” Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.” You never know if your encounter of love with someone is what will draw them to Christ.

Finally, my brethren even thought it may sometimes seem that there are a million and one things why we should by pass certain men in terms of showing love to them, there is one good reason why you should not by pass them: we love God, and whoever says he loves God keeps His commands.

And please it doesn’t mean everybody should be your friend , it just means you should be kind to all regardless.

Love the mother,

Alison.
